NZ ART SHOW
I have been involved with the New Zealand Art Show since 2008. It was the first major art show in New Zealand with the main purpose of celebrating, nurturing and showcasing talented artists work. It also encourages kiwis to own original art from Aotearoa.
17 YEARS OF THE NZ ART SHOW
2009
I had just moved from Wellington to the Hawkes Bay prior to this show. It was unusual showcasing my work in my hometown knowing that I didnāt live there anymore. I discovered that the New Zealand Art Show was a great way to catchup with my friends, family, and colleagues from Wellington as well as showcase my latest creations.
2010
This show was the beginning of my transition to painting brighter, uplifting, and mixed media work using various techniques with modelling paste, wallpapers, and resin effects. You can see the influence of moving to the Hawkes Bay with the subject matter and sunny tones in my work.
2018
This work is a reflection of a very busy mind full of ideas and bringing together abstract and figurative themes. The repetitive nature of some of the patterns and the use of bold, bright, and textured subject matter was an intentional way of soothing my mind and bringing joy to the observer.
2019
The following year showed the evolution of my style and was the beginning of the Heather Wilson Oar. These oars included both abstract and my favourite Wellington based scenes from when I lived there. I also started to develop the three dimensional aspect of art. I wanted to not only paint with textural compounds, but use the shading with paint itself to create a three dimensional effect.
2021
2021 was a game changer for me. I brought together childhood memories and kiwiana together with the abstract element of my work. An example of this is my Coin series. My work became bigger, bolder, and brighter. Like the previous two years, I returned home with only a few pieces of my work.
2022
This year was my busiest and most successful year at the New Zealand Art Show. It was the first year that I can say that I loved every piece that I brought along. It was the introduction of the star series and the progression of the oar series. The oar series used city slogans to reveal some of my favourite childhood haunts in the Wellington region where I grew up.
2023
2023 was another fabulous year. Thanks for visiting my stand and to those who purchased my work. The oars were a real hit!
2024
2024 was a fantastic year. Iām so grateful to all the artists, friends, and buyers who came and visited me. Hoping to see you same place in 2025!
